williebhines replied to your post: ways in which my life is worse for having dropped out of high school Calculus is the mathematical study of change. You learn to find patterns, and then measure what happens to those patterns at their extremes. At its most basic, for dealing with speed and acceleration. More abstract: with things maxed to infinity. Seriously? That’s all? I do that all the...

“a veteran quartet with nothing to prove, but still hellbent on proving it anyway” “The sound is so exuberant that it’s easy to miss the lyrics begging for escape from everyone and everything” Imperial Teen are the official house band of my head. I know without looking that their albums came out in 1996, 1999, 2002, 2007, and now 2012, and always just in time.

Dropping out of high school is one of the best things I’ve ever done with my life. Didn’t even stop me from going to college and law school, when I felt like it. Voluntary school can be useful; compulsory school is prison. Education cannot be forced. Anyone in school who doesn’t want to be there should drop out and go do something useful.

In New York, possession of a small amount of marijuana is decriminalized. But police often trick people by searching them or asking them to empty their pockets, and then arresting them for the crime of having marijuana in “public view”. This is done most frequently to racial minorities and young people. A bill in the state legislature would end this practice. At this link, you can...

1) The most frustrating part: we have the technological means to make all available media available instantly to anyone with an internet connection. Every movie. All the music. That requires resources, like storage space and bandwidth, but all of that’s doable. The only thing holding us back from a society of universally available art is an artificial obstacle we made up. 2) If we ever do...

The internet has leveled the playing field all around, and now when the powers that be use force to protect the interests of the monied elites, a small group of rebels can fight back against the empire in ways that are effective and nonviolent.
