“The Brooklynites” by Soul Coughing is embarrassingly bad— and this is coming from a Soul Coughing apologist. The verses and music are good, but then Doughty starts rattling off subway announcements and it feels like a corny bumper to a national broadcast of a Brooklyn sports event (watch this get used once the Nets move). It’s the Times Square tourist shop version of Brooklyn. This is an outtake that got thrown onto a soundtrack as an afterthought, and I wish they had cannibalized the good bits for a better song.
But I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t get me a little excited about moving.
