“Not Gonna Get Us” by Tatu. Actually by t.A.T.u., but writing it that way makes me feel uncomfortable.

I somehow didn’t realize until today that the title can be a double entendre: “get” like “catch”, and “get” like “understand”. That’s part of what makes this one of the best you-and-me-against-the-world songs ever made. They’ll never figure us out, they’ll never stop us, and we’ll always be way ahead of them. It’s every love story I’ve ever liked, in one perfectly-produced pop song.

I wish people didn’t dismiss Tatu as a marketing gimmick; it’s true, but the marketing isn’t what’s on my iPod. Just because a Russian businessman figured out lesbians were trendy doesn’t mean Trevor Horn didn’t produce this. The conception may have been cynical, but this song is immaculate.
