TUMBLR AND GOOGLE ANNOUNCE NEW “SEND” TECHNOLOGY TO REPLACE “REBLOGGING FOR”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
—-Mountain View, CA.—-
At a press conference held today at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, executives from the Google and Tumblr web services announced a new joint venture to simplify the process by which Tumblr users send Star Wars fan art and stills from British sitcoms to their friends.
The new technology, named “SEND,” will be a subset of Google’s Gmail service and will allow Tumblr bloggers to attach a dog picture to a private blog post and then share that post only with the individuals who would care. Currently, these ostensibly private messages are tagged as “reblogged for” the intended recipient, uploaded to Tumblr’s servers and presented to multiple internet users, almost none of whom share the sender’s and recipient’s weird constellation of fixations and neuroses.
The new “SEND” program is expected to ease strain on Tumblr’s infrastructure and dramatically reduce the frequency with which Tumblr’s subscribers view long exegeses of late-period Buffy The Vampire Slayer episodes and pictures of strangers standing in front of restaurants.
While I hate the “reblogged for” thing and love this post, I vow to continue propagating essays about Buffy The Vampire Slayer as far and wide as my internet presence will allow.
